Super Moisturizing Face Cream

As I age, my skin is getting drier and drier, and it’s been a challenge for me to find what works. I’ve always had very oily skin growing up and into early adulthood, so this change has thrown me for a loop.

I started doing some research because it’s not as simple as just adding more oils or butters to a formula, at least not for me and my skin. I’ve spent a lifetime up until now shunning any, and every, thing that makes me “glow” because on me, that just read as “shiny, greaseball face”. I needed something that would give my skin the hydration it needed, but without the slick, oily look or feel.

I came up with a basic face cream formula, and it’s wonderful! It absorbs readily, makes your skin soft, and gives a matte finish. The only thing that kept it from being perfect for me was that I needed more moisture. That’s when ceramides entered the chat.

I bought Ceramide Complex from Lotioncrafters after reading up on the wonderful benefits of using ceramides in skin care. The ceramide complex I bought “...restores the protective barrier function of the skin and offers enhanced delivery and exchange of skin lipids…it’s especially suitable for dry skin, aging skin and sensitive skin.” Ding, ding, ding, I think we have a winner!

So without further ado,  here’s my recipe/formula for this exceptional face cream. I hope, if nothing else, it inspires you to craft something YOUR skin needs and loves!

Super Moisturizing Face Cream

Water Phase:

78.8% / 44.68g Distilled Water

1% / 0.57g Propanediol

1% / 0.57g Panthenol

Oil Phase:

4% / 2.27g Ritamulse SCG

3% / 1.70g Cetyl Alcohol

4% / 2.27g Sunflower Oil

4% / 2.27g Squalane

Ceramide Phase:  I separate this out because I heat water and oil phases in a microwave, where I have no control over how hot it gets. If you’re using a hot water bath and will keep an eye out to ensure the oil phase won’t get above 80°C / 176°F, you can add the Ceramide Complex to the oil phase.

3% / 1.70g Ceramide Complex

Cool Down Phase:

0.5% / 0.28g Liquid Germall Plus

0.2% / 0.11g Vitamin E - Tocopherol

0.5% / 0.28g Sea Buckthorn Extract

100% / 2 oz.

  1. In a heat-safe vessel, combine the ingredients in the water phase together and stir well to combine/dissolve the panthenol.
  2. In a separate heat-safe vessel, combine the ingredients in the oil phase. *If you are going to closely monitor a hot water bath to melt ingredients, you can add the ceramide complex to this phase - just keep the temperature under 176° F / 80°C. If you’re going to microwave the phases, do so in short bursts and remove as soon as the ritamulse and cetyl alcohols are melted. Add ceramide complex after you combine the water & oil phases as the temperature will most likely be well under 176°F.
  3. Combine the water & oil phases together and blend for approximately 1 minute.
  4. *Add the ceramide complex if you haven’t already. Stir well to combine.
  5. Once the temperature is UNDER 122°F, you can add the cool down ingredients.
  6. Stir well to combine.
  7. Transfer to a clean, sterilized jar. Let face cream completely cool before capping it.
  8. Enjoy!
